The memorial honouring fourteen valiant men and women who gave outstanding wartime service to
Canada during the last four centuries was erected around the Sappers'
Stairway on Confederation Square in Canada's national capital, Ottawa in
November 2006.
The Stairway leads down to the Rideau Canal at the north-eastern end of
Confederation Square’s central triangle, which will remain
dominated by the National War Memorial.
